Lot description

A stone lithograph c.1956 by the late Alaskan artist, Fred Machetanz (1908-2002) entitled "Cutting Fish". The work depicts a woman cutting and cleaning fish with her crescent-shaped women's knife ("ooloo"), deftly splitting and degutting the fish, slitting it down the back, leaving the sides jointed at the tail to facilitate draping over the poles of fish racks for airing and drying. Titled lower left, marked Edition-100, and hand-signed in graphite lower right. Matted and framed, it measures approximately 19" x 21" overall with a sight view of 9.25" x 12".
