Born in Geneva, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva and became a founding member of the experimental art group Ecart Group in the late 1960s. Armleder’s practice is closely associated with the Fluxus movement and explores the relationship between art, design, and everyday objects. He is particularly known for his “Furniture Sculptures,” which combine paintings with found furniture and decorative elements, blurring the boundaries between fine art and interior design. Armleder’s work often incorporates abstraction, chance, and humor while questioning traditional hierarchies in art. His works have been widely exhibited internationally and are held in major museum collections around the world.
