Lot description
Mark Rohrig (American, b. 1955), oil and acrylic on board. This Mystic Realist portrait depicts a Native American elder or warrior from the waist up, draped in a textured blue blanket and wearing an intricate beaded breastplate and a single feather in his dark hair. The subject holds a stone-tipped spear adorned with a feather in his right hand, while his left supports a ceremonial drum decorated with red fabric and four pendant feathers. The brushwork is fine and detailed within the figure and regalia, set against a more broadly handled, atmospheric dark background. The work is signed and dated in the lower left corner, Mark Rohrig 80 (c). It is housed in a simple stained wood frame with a red velvet-covered inner liner. The verso is sealed with a brown paper dust cover, featuring a hanging wire and a small, partially obscured gold framer label at the bottom edge. 24 x 30 inches. Artist: Mark Rohrig (American, b. 1955) Dimensions: 32.00"L x 2.00"W x 26.00"H Weight: 10.00 lbs.
