Lot description
Mezzotint and etched lines, printed in dark brown dating 1774 from Liber Veritatis, a collection of drawings made by Claude Lorrain (1600-1682). Richard Earlom (1743-1822) made a set of prints after Claude's Liber Veritatis while it was in the collection of the Dukes of Devonshire at Chatsworth. The Earlom set was engraved between 1774 and 1777 and published by Boydell in two volumes in 1777, each containing 100 numbered prints. The set was immediately successful upon release
