Lot description

Adolphe Mouron Cassandre 1901-1968 Paris. 1935. Condition A / A-: minor repaired tears at bottom edge. Framed. Although produced in the same year as his fabled Normandie poster, this image is an indication of the direction Cassandre's work would take once he moved to America in 1936. It is composed in a "charming, dreamy" symbolic style based on Surrealism, and indeed, elements of Magritte can be seen; it is a "foreglimpse of Cassandre's later stage designs" (Mouron p. 71). Mouron 53, Cassandre / Weill 143, Train 267, Voyage p. 141, Reclame 99.
