Lot description
Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (French, 1827-1875), Le Boudeur Sulky Child, a bronze sculpture depicting a young child captured in a moment of expressive contemplation. The figure is modeled with remarkable sensitivity, showcasing Carpeauxs celebrated ability to convey emotion through naturalistic form. The childs posture and facial expression reflect a subtle sense of youthful defiance or introspection, while the textured treatment of the hair and softly modeled features demonstrate the sculptors mastery of surface and movement. The work is inscribed LE BOUDER on the integral square base and bears the incised artist signature along the shoulder. Provenance South American Collection. Dimensions: 11 X 7 X 6 in.
