Lot description

Signed lower right, the subject thoroughly noted on the bottom edge, sight 13 5/8" x 17 5/8" and framed to 18 1/2" x 22 1/2". South East London’s Edward Windred was self taught and became perhaps the most notable racing pigeon portrait painter of the 1920’s and 30’s. This example, which will be offered in our March 2026 auction, immortalizes Dark Diamond, a pigeon that competed in several derbies in Peckham, South East London, in the summer of 1928 before retiring to Pontiac, Michigan.
