Lot description
Alice Halicka, Polish/French 1894-1975 - Still life; oil on paper laid down on panel, signed upper left 'A Halicka', 37.5 x 45.5 cm (ARR) Provenance: John Denham Gallery, London and thence by descent Note: Halicka lived and work in inter-war Paris, developing a unique language of cubism alongside her husband, Louis Marcoussis. Halicka exhibited at the Salon des Independants and began to work under the influence of art dealer Leopold Zborowski (1889-1932), who was a strong proponent of Cubism. He began to represent her work, though her husband strongly discouraged it. As a result, Halicka destroyed much of her cubist work and from 1919 focused on collage and fabric design.
