John Davies, British b.1946 - Pupil, 1973-75; mixed media on wooden base, H197 x W86.5 x D60.5 (including base) (ARR) Exhibited: Whitechapel Gallery, London, 'John Davies', 4th November-21st December 1975 Literature: Annely Juda Fine Art, London, 'John Davies', illus. fig.2 Note: Davies' first solo exhibition was at Whitechapel Gallery in London in 1972, and subsequently again in 1975. It was this first show that garnered him attention for his life size figures. His figures are often cast in part from life, giving them unsettling sense of realness. He has also exhibited broadly including at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice; Den Haag Sculptuur, Holland; Marlborough Fine Art, London and New York; Bodyworks, Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge.
