The artist entered the Düsseldorf Academy in 1875 and studied landscape painting with Eugen Dücker in 1876. Since 1890, his works show a clear influence of Impressionist painting. Kallmorgen was a member of the Berlin Academy of Arts and served several times as chairman of the Great Berlin Art Exhibition.
