Lot description

oil on canvas, 63 x 101 cm, signed, dated and inscribed lower right: Jaroslav Vesin – Sofia – 1910, verso number 959, gilded period frame. Consulted with Dr Irena Zantovska Murray HonFRIBA, Professor Jaromir Zemina, Dr Jiri Machalicky and Vladimir Lekes. Authenticity certificate enclosed. Bulgaria, along with its rural life and culture, was a key source of inspiration for Vesin. One consequence was his fondness for hunting motifs, which occupy a special place in his oeuvre. The work captures a dramatic moment after a successful winter hunt. In the middle of a snow-covered forest glade, a proud and weary group of men load their quarry onto carts, while a group of hunting dogs rest in a corner after their strenuous exertions.
