Zig (Louis Gaudin) Costume Design : Maquette c. 1930 ink and watercolor on paper sight: 12.5 h x 7.5 w in (32 x 19 cm) In this maquette for a daring costume design, Zig blends the elegance of Egyptian Revival with the clean efficiency of Art Deco. Made up of a headdress, bodice, wrap skirt, and armpiece, the outfit dispenses with fabric entirely, relying instead on strings of varying lengths to do all the work. As with many of his designs, Zig shows a keen understanding of how costume can frame and flatter the female form-bold, playful, and surprisingly refined. Signed to lower right 'Zig'.
