Harden Sidney Melville, British 1824-1894- Startled horses in a storm; watercolour heightened with white on paper, signed 'H S Melville' (lower right), 41.8 x 90.3 cm. Note: The subject of horses in a landscape was one to which Melville returned repeatedly throughout his career. He was the son of the printmaker Henry William Melville (1792-1870).
