Antoine Chintreuil, French 1814-1873- A woman washing clothes in a woodland stream; oil on panel, signed 'Chintreuil' and indistinctly inscribed and dated (lower right), 25 x 31 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work is a charming example of Chintreuil's atmospheric landscapes, and exhibits his typically loose technique which has led many to associate him with the Impressionist movement, of which he was never formally a part. Similar woodland landscapes sold at Ansorena, Madrid, on 19 July 2022, lot 221 (€1,342), and at Millon, Paris, on 16 December 2021, lot 266 (€4,500 hammer).
