Lot description
Frederick William Jackson, RBA, British 1859-1918- View of a farmhouse by a weir; oil on canvas, signed 'F W JACKSON.' (lower left), 27.5 x 35 cm. Note: Jackson was a Manchester artist who studied at the Oldham School of Art and Manchester Academy, as well as in Paris. He travelled widely, including to Italy and Morocco, which he depicted in a number of his paintings. Nevertheless, the British countryside was the subject of most of Jackson's works, as in the present painting, which recalls his similarly Impressionistic landscapes in the Salford Museum & Art Gallery [no.1943-7] and Manchester Art Gallery [no.1918.6].
