Lot description
Benjamin Williams Leader, RA, British 1831-1923- A mountainous landscape with figures resting on a river bank, and labourers making hay in a field beyond; oil on canvas, signed with initials 'BWL' (lower left), 36 x 51.5 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work is a charming example of Leader's romantic landscapes, which often depict the countryside of his native Worcestershire and the mountains and rivers of neighbouring Wales. Indeed, this landscape is strikingly similar to another by Leader which sold at Roseberys on 12 March 2025, lot 184 (£2,230), which was similarly illuminated by the warm light of the setting sun.
