Lot description
Charles Cattermole, British 1832-1900- Monks seated in an interior; pen, ink, watercolour and bodycolour heightened with white on paper, signed and dated 'Chas Cattermole 1876.' (lower left), 46.5 x 59.8 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Charles Cattermole was heavily influenced by his uncle George Cattermole (1800-1868), a watercolourist who worked as an illustrator for Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832), and who, like his nephew, was principally interested in the depiction of historical scenes. Cattermole exhibited widely, including at the Royal Academy, the Society of British Artists, and the Society of Painters in Watercolours.
