Lot description

Cornelis Droochsloot, Dutch 1630-1673- A river landscape, with fishermen on boats and figures beside cottages on the shore; oil on panel, signed 'cornelis drooghslot[?]' (lower left), 37 x 49.4 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Cornelis Droochsloot was the son and pupil of Joost Cornelisz Droochsloot (1586-1666) and is celebrated for his landscapes, genre paintings and farm scenes. The present work is characteristic of his distinctive village scenes, often featuring a wide path or a river surrounded by buildings on either side, and heavily populated by brightly-coloured figures scattered across the scene. For two similar scenes, of comparable dimensions, see Droochsloot's panels listed on the RKD website under nos 261421 and 189334.
