Lot description
Boris Deutsch (Russian/American, b. 1931). A powerful figurative composition by Russian/American artist Boris Deutsch, depicting a closely grouped ensemble of elongated, introspective faces rendered in a moody palette of deep blues, earthen browns, and muted ochres. The figures appear contemplative and inward, their simplified features and expressive eyes creating a sense of shared emotion and collective memory.Deutsch's handling of paint is textured and gestural, with layered brushwork that blurs the boundaries between individual figures, emphasizing unity over portrait specificity. The composition reflects themes frequently present in his work of the 1960s-identity, introspection, and the psychological weight of modern Jewish experience-while maintaining a distinctly modernist visual language.Signed and dated "Boris Deutsch '67" at lower right. Framed in an ornate gilt wood frame. Estimated Value $400 - 800
