Signed "Charchoune" lower right. Serge Charchoune was a Russian-born painter who became a central figure in the Parisian avant-garde. After emigrating from Russia, he settled in France in the 1910s, where he became the first Russian artist associated with the Dada movement. His work evolved fluidly between Cubism, abstraction, and representational modes, often distinguished by bold color gradations and rhythmic, geometric structures. His work is represented in major collections, including the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.
