Lot description
A luminous and atmospheric view of Normandy's historic waterfront unfolds in this original oil painting by Christophe Charpides, titled Normandy, presented in its original Art Lore gallery frame and backing. Signed boldly lower left, Charpides captures the essence of the French coast with his signature impasto technique, dynamic strokes, rich textures, and a reflective palette of grays, blues, and garnet reds. The harbor bustles with life: moored fishing boats, animated figures, and a striking cathedral rise above the town's clustered rooftops. Though little is documented about Charpides, his works were widely distributed through Art Lore Galleries in the mid-20th century and are recognized for their romantic, expressionist depictions of European architecture and harbors. The present work exemplifies his style at its best, evocative, energetic, and drenched in Old World charm. Signature on lower left. Artist: Christophe Charpides (French, 1902-1992) Issued: c. 1970 Dimensions: 33"L x 2"W x 29"H Country of Origin: France
