Lot description

Sandu Liberman (1906–1976) Romanian/American, Signed Lithograph Artist's Proof of Rabbi. Marked AP in lower left, pencil signed lower right. Framed. Overall Size: 26 x 32 in. Sight Size: 18 x 24 in. Sandu Liberman (1906–1976) was a Romanian‑born American painter and printmaker best known for his expressive, modernist landscapes and figure compositions that blend lyrical abstraction with figural elements. After studying art in Bucharest, he emigrated to the United States in the 1930s, where he became part of the vibrant New York art scene and developed a distinctive visual language rooted in color, gesture, and emotional resonance. Liberman’s work reflects a synthesis of European modernist influences and the dynamic energy of mid‑20th‑century American art, often exploring themes of memory, place, and human experience. Throughout his career he exhibited widely in galleries and museums, earning recognition for his ability to balance structure with spontaneity and to imbue his surfaces with a sense of poetic depth and nuanced feeling.
