Velia Newman (born 1969 in Sydney, Australia) is a contemporary Australian painter renowned for her vibrant, thickly textured acrylic works that capture the colour, light, and energy of her coastal and natural surroundings. Growing up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in an artistic family, she began painting at age nine and developed a bold, expressive palette-knife style that reflects her love of beaches, bushland, native flora, and sailing life. Largely self-taught but influenced early on by her mother, a romantic impressionist artist, Newman has exhibited alongside notable Australian artists and is represented in galleries across Australia, Asia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Her richly layered, joyfully coloured paintings are held in private collections worldwide and celebrate the beauty and spirit of the natural world.
