(2)Windred was one of the most well-known painters of winning racing pigeons, originally possibly a miner, he ran a barbers shop in New Cross where owners would bring their pigeons to be painted. His lack of formal training meant he developed his own technique for capturing the winning birds. He had a number of silhouettes made up in cardboard or ply which he would match up to the pigeon. Once he had found the shape that fitted best he would draw around it and then keep a few feathers from the bird after it had been returned to its owner.
