Jacob Maentel 1763-1863 Young Woman Wearing a Bonnet Watercolor on Paper c. 1812, unsigned. An oval watercolor three-quarter portrait of a young woman in profile facing right. She wears an elaborate bonnet made of transparent gauze held in place with a checked brown and blue headband tied in a bow. She wears a short sleeved gray Empire dress and a white fichu embroidered with a vine at the edge. She is posed against an opaque blue oval background with a thin red stripe on the edge of the oval. Her face and arm are the natural color of the paper that has now turned a soft light brown. The watercolor is in an original black frame with old wavy glass.
