Lot description

Daniel ISRAEL (Austria 1859 - 1901) Woman with vase Oil on canvas 120.5 x 70 cm Signed upper right Israël München Provenance: Public sale, 18 Oct 2024 Clars Auction Gallery ,Oakland USA Born in Vienna in 1859, Daniel Israël trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, before continuing his studies in Munich, where he settled permanently. It was in this fertile artistic context, influenced by the German school of genre painting and Europe's infatuation with the Orient, that he developed a highly personal orientalist style. He made several trips to the Balkans and the Near East, notably to Turkey and Palestine, which inspired his compositions. His work is characterized by masterful realism, a taste for ethnographic detail and a luminous palette. Israël depicts scenes of daily life, portraits of women and merchants, often in sober interiors or against a backdrop of oriental architecture.
