SHEILA METZNER (1939- ) My Life (World Trade Center), from the New York series. 2000. Platinum print, the image measuring 22x14½ inches (55.9x36.8 cm.), the sheet 27x20 inches (68.6x50.8 cm.), with Metzner's signature, date, and notation "From Life" in pencil on recto. About her project of documenting New York, Metzner stated: "I found it daunting and didn't know that I could contribute anything to what [Berenice] Abbott and [Alfred] Stieglitz had already done. But when I got up high to take the pictures, I discovered that the landscape had grown as naturally as an anthill-brick by brick, it had become the wonder of the world."
