Lot description
STEVEN MEISEL (1954- ) Madonna Sex. 381x317 mm; 15x12½ inches. New York: Warner Books, 1992, first edition, small folio, spiral-bound aluminum boards, unopened in its original illustrated and lettered mylar envelope containing book and compact disk; illustrated throughout; art direction by Fabien Baron; edited by Glenn O'Brien; Madonna Sex, timed for simultaneous release with her album Erotica, was subsequently suppressed by the Vatican for its content. The sealed mylar package was chosen by the designers because of its resemblance to a condom wrapper, and because the reader is thereby obliged to tear it open to gain access to the book.
