Lot description
BENITI CORNELIS (1946 - 2017) - "Untitled" - litho - gesigneerd in potlood - epreuve d'artiste - 97 x 67 cm For Beniti Cornelis, painting is a search for balance between the graphic and the pictorial. His method is too subtle and complex to be described as pure expression. He describes his style as “lyrical translation”. Words have no place in his artistic language. He rarely gives his paintings titles. A work by Cornelis is immediately recognisable. The centre is dominated by graphic elements in earthy tones, surrounded by a calmer area. The lyricism of the colours is approached, defined, traversed and intensified by incessant graphic intervention. Work in the following collections The Belgian State, The Flemish Community, The City of Mechelen, Museum Busleyden, The City of Mol, Picture Cabinet of the City of Antwerp, Antwerp Province, Royal Library Picture Cabinet of Brussels, Belgian Embassies in Tel-Aviv, Singapore and Abidjan, Private collections in Belgium and overseas.
