Lot description

An original oil painting by Alaska artist Norman Lowell (1927-2024), titled "Valdez Falls." Signed and dated c.1987 by the artist, lower left. In the mid-sixties, Lowell moved his family to Anchorage to open a private art school from 1965-1967. He continued to develop his own style, devising paint mediums of his own to better achieve a texture and depth that he sought in his work. Desiring a homestead life, the Lowells relocated to Anchor Point, where Lowell constructed a small art studio/gallery on his homestead land. The "Norman Lowell Gallery of Alaska" was completed in 2000, and his 2017 works were the final paintings of his career. This peak-period piece is housed in the original frame, signed, titled, and dated en verso, and measures approximately 16" x 11" overall and a sight view of 12" x 7.25".
