Lot description
Herman Wessel (American/Cincinnati, 1878-1969). An outstanding group of three oil on board paintings of Rockport, Massachusetts (2 of them depicting the First Congregational Church), likely executed around the same time. Herman and artist Bessie Hoover Wessel (1889-1973) often spent summers in Rockport and Gloucester, Massachusetts. Two are horizontally structured, one vertical. Only the vertical example is signed. Vertical 11.5" x 8.5" (sight), horizontal examples 10.5" x 12.5" (sights).
