Lot description
Bernard Cohen, British b.1933 - Untitled, 1973; ink on paper, dedicated and dated lower right 'to John -Bernard Cohen 1973', 58 x 78.5 cm (ARR) Provenance: John Plumb (1927-2008) and thence by descent Note: Cohen was a pioneer of abstraction in Britain in the Post-War period and this is a brilliant example of his early work that drove him to prominence. The mid-1960s was an important period for the artist, with travelling exhibitions with the British Council, a retrospective at the Hayward Gallery (this included this work) and in 1966, the year following the making of this work, he was included in 'Five Young British Artists', the 1966 Venice Biennale's British Pavilion show, alongside Anthony Caro, Robyn Denny, Richard Smith and his brother Harold Cohen.
