Christopher Wood, British 1901-1930 - Two Figures, Cannes, 1927; pencil on paper, inscribed on the reverse 'Cannes 1927', 32.5 x 24 cm Provenance: Sotheby’s, London, 20th Century British & Irish Art, 1st March 2007, lot 22; Private Collection Note: the present work demonstrates the brilliance of Wood's draughtmanship in the utterly confident use of line. The work recalls the linear drawings of Jean Cocteau, who Wood had met in 1921 in Paris.
