Cultural Revolution signed and dated 1982 (lower right) acrylic on canvas 36" x 36" (91 cm x 91 cm) PROVENANCE The Luz Gallery EXHIBITED The Luz Gallery, Raul Isidro: 21st One-Man Show, Makati, 26 June - 23 July 1982 Showcasing his ongoing dialogue between nature, spirit, and culture, Raul Isidro's Cultural Revolution demonstrates the transformation and renewal within Filipino Identity through his own visual language. Made in 1982, this piece reinterprets the country's constant search for identity by featuring dynamic, overlapping geometric forms shaded in warm color tones of ochre, red orange, and white, set against a muted gray background— the figures moving and colliding to the center point of the canvas, creating a tone of both tension and harmony that reflects the clash and combination of cultural forces as the history of the nation continues to move forward. Capturing the energy of transformation, Raul Isidro's Cultural Revolution highlights the constant evolution of culture by using warm, vibrant colors and rhythmic geometric structures to mirror how local culture constantly confronts external influences, further redefining itself over time. This piece perfectly reflects the transformation and renewal of Filipino culture and how Filipinos define it. (Mark John Castañeda)
