Lot description
BAMBI (1942) - Complete Set of 10 Framed Signed Lithographs - This is a complete set of 10 fine art lithographs from the Bambi Portfolio, created in 1988-1990 and personally signed by Disney's legendary "Nine Old Men" animators Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston. Each image was hand-drawn by the artists, then transferred onto lithographic plates and printed on fine deckle-edged paper at The American Atelier in New York, under the supervision of master printer David Wander and Technical Director Mauro Giuffrida. Once the editions were completed, the plates were destroyed, guaranteeing the exclusivity of the series. Unlike many studio-issued editions derived from production artwork, these pieces represent original compositions by Johnston and Thomas, who revisited their beloved characters of Bambi, Thumper, Flower, and friends decades after the film's release. The result is a body of work that carries not just the artistry of Disney animation but also the personal creative touch of two of its greatest animators. The portfolio includes all ten lithographs: • A Special Look - Ollie Johnston • Learning to Talk - Frank Thomas • The First Kiss - Ollie Johnston • Curiosity - Frank Thomas • A Mother's Love - Ollie Johnston • First Butterfly - Frank Thomas • Sleepy Heads - Ollie Johnston • Bambi's Predicament - Frank Thomas • Greetings - Ollie Johnston • An Unusual Flower - Frank Thomas Each lithograph is individually numbered within the edition of 500 and hand-signed in pencil by either Johnston or Thomas. Also included are the original suite documentation, title pages, and collector volumes: Bambi: The Story and the Film by Johnston and Thomas, and Bambi: The Flip Book. The set is complete with individual Certificates of Authenticity. While one or two editions occasionally appear on the market from time to time, it is incredibly rare to find a complete portfolio intact, preserved in pristine condition since release. This signed, fine art edition set represents a true bounty for collectors, an exceptional convergence of Disney artistry, animation history, and fine art publishing, now ready to be treasured by a new custodian.
