James McBey (Scottish, 1883-1959), Zero - A 60 Pounder Opening Fire, April 8, 1926, an antique etching on paper depicting a powerful wartime scene with a silhouetted figure in motion near a field command unit. Executed in McBeys signature style of expressive yet controlled line work, the composition captures the immediacy and psychological intensity of artillery warfare. The date is inscribed in the plate at the lower right of the image. Pencil signed by the artist in the lower right margin and inscribed with Roman numerals at the lower left, denoting the proof state. Presented under glass in a frame with notations and provenance details on the backing paper. Approximate sight size 9 x 12.5 inches. Dimensions: 15.5 X 19.5 X 0.5 in. Condition: Fair overall antique condition with surface wear and toning consistent with age. Visible foxing and stains present to the paper matting.
