Lot description
Signed and dated lower right: Pettenkofen 856 Framed under glass In addition to depictions of Viennese folk life, scenes of soldiers and village scenes, August von Pettenkofen also captured scenes of the Hungarian Puszta and Slovakian rural life in oil paintings and watercolours. The Lugt stamp 1108 on the reverse of the sheet proves that this large, detailed watercolour painting in rich, vibrant colours comes from the art collection of the Viennese wool merchant Friedrich Jakob Gsell (1812–1871), the Galerie Gsell, one of the most important private painting collections in Vienna.
