Lot description
This is one of a series of four drawings by Johannes Glauber with similar compositions, which were probably created for a series of copperplate engravings. All four drawings come from the important collection of Baron E. C. van Pallandt, which in turn originated from the collection of Pieter van den Brande (see Charles Dumas and Robert-Jan te Rijdt, Kleur en Raffinement, Tekeningen uit de Unicorno collectie, exhibition catalog, Amsterdam, Museum Het Rembrandthuis, 1994). Two of these sheets are now in the Metropolitan Museum in New York. The pendant to our drawing is now in an unknown private collection.
