Lot description
The present still life is a characteristic work by Bartolomeo Bimbi: initially a pupil of Lorenzo Lippi and Onorio Marinari, Bimbi came into contact with Mario dei Fiori in Rome, there specializing as a still life painter. On his return to Florence, in the last decades of the XVII century, he begun to work at the Medici court, becoming famous for paintings of fruits, flowers and animals, often also for documentary and scientific purposes. The landscape in the background is particularly interesting for dating the work, as it displays the same mountain profile as in a signed still life, now in the Museo della Natura Morta in Poggio a Caiano, inscribed and dated 1706.
