Lot description
Grande", Leinwand doubliert, umfangreiche Retuschen, etwas Craquelure, neuzeitlicher antikisierender Prunkrahmen, Falzmaße ca. 30,5 x 46 cm. Künstlerinfo: englischer Landschaftsmaler, Graphiker und Aquarellist (1812 Greenwich bis 1908 Great Missenden), Lehre bei dem Maler Coply Fielding, 1825-27 Lehre bei Thales und Theodor Fielding, ab 1929 als Graveur in Paris tätig, ab 1831 Kunstlehrer der Familie von König Louis-Philippe I., 1841 Rückkehr nach London und Aufnahme in die Royal Watercolour Society, 1855 Übersiedlung nach Buckinghamshire, zahlreiche Studienreisen in verschiedene Länder Europas, Quelle: Thieme-Becker und Wikipedia. William Callow, attr., On the Grand Canal in Venice Impression of the Grand Canal in Venice, under a loosely cloudy sky, on the water some boats, partly executed with a pointed brush, characteristic for Callow veduta painting with successful light lifts, unsigned, 19th century, inscribed on a typewritten label on the reverse "WILLIAM CALLOW R.W.S (1812-1908)", a second label probably referring to an earlier exhibition in which the present work was exhibited, probably together with a watercolour by the artist of the Ehrenbreitstein fortress in Koblenz, the latter probably referring to the work "Ehrenbreitstein und Koblenz von den Höhen von Pfaffendorf" from 1839, here incorrectly dated 1860 on the label, the title "Venice, Canale [sic!] Grande", canvas relined, extensive retouching, some craquelure, modern antique-style magnificent frame, inner dimensions approx. 30.5 x 46 cm.
