Sight Size: 17 x 23 in. Aldo Affortunati (1906-1991) was an Italian painter, based in Florence, whose work vividly captured scenes of everyday Italian life with great warmth and color. Influenced by the Macchiaioli tradition, he developed a distinctive technique of applying oil paint with a palette knife (mestichino), creating richly textured surfaces and vibrant tonal contrasts. His nostalgic subjects ranged from bustling tavern interiors and street vendors to graceful ballerinas and rustic village scenes. Affortunati exhibited widely, and his paintings remain highly sought after for their lively brushwork and ability to evoke the spirit of mid-20th-century Italy.
