Victor Manuel (Cuban, 1897-1969) 'Untitled' Oil On Canvas Painting Cuba,1960 Victor Manuel (1897-1969) Oil on canvas painting Titled: 'Nocturnal' depicting a street scene at night, signed lower right. Mounted in gilt wood frame. Provenance: Private collection Bal Harbor, FL. Accompanied by certificate of authenticity by art curator and Historian, Carlos M. Luis, 1997 Certificate of authenticity by Cuban art expert, Emilio Fernandez de la Vega, 1998 Notes: (Emilio Fernández de la Vega- This singular piece is considered anthology-worthy within the context of Víctor Manuel's work, where the urban landscape is frequently addressed — though not so much the nocturnal urban landscape, which is literally unknown within the scope of his published works. The piece describes the nocturnal atmosphere of a Havana neighborhood; the chromatic solutions define it as a mature work due to its total gestural simplicity and use of pure colors, applied with the characteristic detachment of his later period, in which drawing, an ordering element, at times disappears only to reappear in the vertical hieratic nature of his trees. This work nevertheless shines with the brilliance of his daytime subjects.)
