Lot description
(Dresden 1834–1892 Vienna) “Garten in Fagalla”, verso titled, signature stamp Leopold Carl Müller, oil on canvas, 36 x 50 cm, framed Provenance: Private Collection, Austria. We are grateful to Dr Peter Jánosi for his scholarly advice. The view shows El- Faggâla Street in Cairo in the late 19th century, which was then still located on the northern outskirts of the city. Today, the area is part of the densely built-up centre of the megacity, and the historic gardens have long since disappeared.
