Emile Munier (American/French, 1840 - 1895) oil painting on canvas depicting a young boy seated on a rock along the shoreline, fishing with a long pole as a sailboat drifts in the distance. The work captures Muniers characteristic balance of naturalistic detail with sentimental charm, reflecting the influence of his teacher, William-Adolphe Bouguereau. Hand signed 'E. Munier' to the lower right corner. Presented in an ornate giltwood frame with foliate and beaded ornamentation. Work Size: 38.5 x 16.25 in. Dimensions: 47 X 24.75 X 4 in. Condition: Good to fair overall antique condition with typical surface wear. The canvas shows multiple old patches and repairs visible on the verso. Surface exhibits craquelure, scattered retouching, and abrasions. Varnish has discolored with age. Frame with wear, rubbing, and losses present consistent with age and handling.
