Georges Dola (Edmond Vernier) La Comtesse Maritza vintage poster 1930 sight: 46.625 h x 31 w in (118 x 79 cm) In Dola's promotion for a French production of Hungarian composer Emmerich Kalman's fluffy operetta, men are but common playthings for the beautiful, spirited Countess Maritza. In actuality, the lighthearted romp revolves around Maritza's reluctance to give up her freedom in the name of tradition, but romance rules the day as true love arrives in the form of-what else-a disguised nobleman serving as her bailiff. Taking his pseudonym from the town of Dole in the province of Jura where he was born, this painter and lithographer earned a reputation for numerous music covers and portraits of performing artists, as well as posters for the stage. He lectured as professor of the Cercle International des Arts. Atelier Dola, Paris This work will ship from Chicago, Illinois.
