(George) Byron Browne (New York, 1907-1961) Nude 1959 Signed lower center, signed again, titled and dated verso on the canvas. Byron Browne was an important figure in American modernism and one of the first artists in the United States to fully embrace abstraction in the 1930s. As a result, he became an important figure in American modernism. Late in his career he painted in the style seen here. Canvas measures 18 x 14 with a framed size of 23.75 x 19.75 inches.
