His first solo exhibition took place at the Goodwin gallery in Limerick in 1962 and his last with Gerald Davis in Dublin in 1999. His work was part of the painting event in the art competition at the 1948 Summer Olympics in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Clear showed works at the Irish Exhibition of Living Art and at the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin. He was a keen musician and was involved in his local Dramatic Society in Rush. A retrospective of his works was held at the Daffodil Gallery in 2001 and 2003.
