JULIO ROMERO DE TORRES Córdoba 1874 - 1930 Portrait of María Paz Suárez-Guanes de la Borbolla. 1915 Oil and tempera on canvas Signed and dated Dimensions 100 x 90 cm This distinguished portrait of María Paz Suárez Guanes de la Borbolla was executed in 1915 by Julio Romero de Torres, one of the most renowned Spanish portraitists of the turn of the century. The model is depicted with serene dignity, seated in an interior open to the landscape, carrying a rose and dressed in rich fabrics, cameos and a mantilla, in a composition where elegance merges with the artist's characteristic symbolism. The painting was paired with the portrait of her husband, José Sanginés Balparda, also painted by Romero de Torres and recently sold at Subastas Segre.
