Lot description
An original oil on stretched canvas portrait, executed circa 1978, of an Alaska Native wearing labrets, signed at the lower right by Alaskan resident artist Harvey B. Goodale (1900-1980). Labrets, plugs inserted through the skin of the lower lip, were commonly worn by Inupiat males, and Unangan, Alutiiq, Tlingit, and Haida women- the size of those in this image indicates an individual of status. Measures approximately 16" x 12" overall.
