Lot description

Original 1953 promotional brochure issued by Columbia Pictures to advertise the upcoming biblical epic Salome, directed by William Dieterle and starring Rita Hayworth, Stewart Granger, and Charles Laughton. This deluxe advertising piece measures 10.75" x 14" and opens to reveal a spectacular full-color portrait of Rita Hayworth reclining on draped gold fabric and velvet, reaching toward a treasure chest overflowing with jewels. She is costumed in sheer pink and gold, striking a seductive pose as the character Salome, one of Hayworth’s most visually iconic roles. The brochure cover features stylized portrait illustrations of the principal cast and elegant gold typography. This rare studio-issued item was distributed to exhibitors and industry insiders as part of the advance marketing campaign for the film’s 1953 release. Provenance: Item was originally provided to the Fox Theater in Pittsburgh, Kansas, where it was used for promotional purposes. It was salvaged by the theater’s manager throughout the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s, and has been preserved in the family’s private archive for decades. Condition: Very good condition. Vibrant color with clean surfaces. Minor handling wear along the edges.
